Three goals in extra time from League 1 Brentford finally condemned a much-changed City side to their first cup defeat of the season.

Featuring as many as nine changes from the side that started at Southend United at the weekend, City had looked on course at one point to book their place in round three when Alan Connell's penalty in the first period of extra time gave them the lead for the second time on the night.

But goals from Marcello Trotta - his second of the tie - and Clayton Donaldson before the interval in extra time and one from Harry Forrester straight after the break, however, decisively swung the game in the Bees' favour.

With several players rested, some playing slightly out of position and two apprentices in their starting eleven, City had done commendably to take their higher-ranked hosts past 90 minutes and into extra time.

Phil Parkinson's men originally took the lead of the tie in the first half through the returning Kyel Reid before Trotta levelled things up on the stroke of half time from the penalty spot.

The F.A Cup defeat, which saw debuts handed out to scholars Forrayah Bass and extra time substitute Nathan Curtis, amazingly is City's first in any cup competition since their F.A Cup loss at Watford back in early January.

The right back was played into space around fourteen yards from goal by Donaldson but he couldn't get the better of McLaughlin despite the well-struck angled effort.
