City boss Phil Parkinson couldn't hide his happiness after watching his side pick up their first victory of the season with a hard-fought win over Fleetwood Town this Tuesday evening.
A thumping header from James Hanson just before the hour mark proved enough to get Parkinson's side off the mark for the new campaign as City marked their first home game of the season with all three points.
"It was a really tough game for us tonight and I'm really pleased that we've got the three points out of this one. At times the standard of play was above what you might expect from a League 2 game," Parkinson said.
"There was some good football on show from both sides - it was a competitive fixture that's sure - and we've ended up winning against a very good side tonight.
"I thought we just looked really strong throughout the side tonight. We've had to throw three players in (Andrew) Davies, (Nathan) Doyle and (Zavon) Hines, who by all rights shouldn't really have started given their lack of pre-season training for one reason or another.
"But I thought they, like the rest of the team, were terrific tonight.
"All the lads who came off the bench also made their own contributions.
"It was a tough game tonight, but football is a tough game.
"To win games of football you need to be strong. You can't have any weak links in the chain, and we certainly didn't tonight.
"It was a great atmosphere as well here under the lights.
"I think tonight gave some of the lads a bit of a taster as to what sort of support they can get here when they show the right passion and commitment, mixed together with some good football.
"I thought the supporters got that passion and good football tonight, and they responded brilliantly and really helped us keep going right until the end.
"It was so important for everyone within the club that we got some points on the board really quickly. It settles everybody down. There have been a lot of changes around here this summer and a lot of new players coming in.
"To get that first three points on the board is great for everyone."
The inclusion of Davies, Doyle and Hines made up three of the four changes chosen by Parkinson for the visit of Fleetwood from the eleven that started at Gillingham at the weekend.
With Nahki Wells joining James Hanson in attack and Kyel Reid giving another attacking threat along with Hines on the flanks, it was clear to all what Parkinson's intentions were for the match.
"We wanted to make a bit of a statement that we're at home and we want to get on the front-foot," said Parkinson.
"We wanted to put Fleetwood on the back-foot and try and make sure their back four really had to do some defending. At times when we broke with pace, I thought we looked really threatening as well."
