The draw is due to take place on Sky Sports 1 after the conclusion of the Northampton Town vs Wolverhampton Wanderers second round tie.
City earned their place in the hat with a dramatic turnaround at Championship side Watford on Tuesday evening thanks to late goals from Kyel Reid and Garry Thompson.
The goals ensured City would be in the third round draw for the first time since 2001.
Premiership sides involved in european competitions, such as Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal, will all enter the Capital One Cup at the third round stage.
City will be BALL NUMBER 3 in this evening's draw.
Whoever City are paired with, all third round ties are scheduled to take place the week commencing the 24th September.
