Tommy Doherty joined the Bantams on a free transfer on 1st July 2010 after a five month spell in Hungary with Ferencvaros.

The move to Valley Parade reunites Doherty with Peter Taylor after the pair worked together at Adams Park during Wycombe's promotion campaign to League 1 back in 2009.

The midfielder also comes to the Coral Windows Stadium with an international pedigree having picked up nine caps for Northern Ireland to date.

The Northern Ireland international was actually born in England, but qualifies through his grandfather who was born in Derry.

The highlight of his International career so far came in 2003 when he featured against Italy and Spain within the space of nine days.

He started his playing career with his local club, Bristol City, bursting onto the scene at Ashton Gate at the tender age of eighteen in 1997. Doherty went on to make 189 appearances and spent over nine successful years with the Robins. After making himself a regular in Bristol City's midfield at League 1 level, Doherty took the step up to the Championship when he signed for Queens Park Rangers in 2005. The Robins League 1 Play-Off Final lost to Brighton & Hove Albion in May 2005 would prove to be Doherty's last in the red of Bristol City.

In September 2006 he moved to Wycombe Wanderers on loan and played the majority of the 2006/07 season with the Chairboys. His efforts in the Wycombe midfield that season earned him a place in the PFA League 2 Team of the Year, while he was also named Supporters Player of the Season at Adams Park.

After returning to QPR over the summer of 2007, Doherty rejoined the Chairboys on loan again in October before joining permanently in January 2008 following his release from Loftus Road. The start of the 2008/09 season saw Doherty join up with Taylor for the first time as the former England manager took over the reins at Adams Park. It would prove to be a successful season for Doherty and Taylor, as the now-Bantams boss guided Wycombe to promotion into League 1 at the first attempt.

Doherty's impressive performances in midfield played a major role in the Chairboys promotion and earned him a place in the PFA League 2 Team of the Year for the second time in his career. After a spell with Wycombe in League 1, Doherty joined the growing British contingent at Ferencvaros, who are managed by former Everton and Sheffield United defender Craig Short.
