Bradford City completed the signing of Gareth Evans on 1st July 2009.

The energetic forward signed for the Bantams for a nominal fee from League 2 rivals Macclesfield Town. Evans had been out of contract with the Silkmen, but City were forced to pay a fee for him due to the striker's age.

Born in Macclesfield, Evans featured in the youth set ups of both Manchester United & Crewe Alexandra. Upon leaving the Alexandra Stadium, Evans was spotted & signed by his home town club of Macclesfield Town.

Macclesfield signed Evans in the summer of 2007 and instantly became a hit with the fans, who fell in love with the energy and effort he produced on the pitch.

Evans went onto make over 80 appearances for the Silkmen, scoring 19 goals including one against West Ham United in the Carling Cup.

After Macclesfield had rejected an offer for Evans from Lincoln City in June 2009, the out of contract Evans was ready to sign for another term with the Silkmen, until Bradford came calling.

The Bantams registered an acceptable offer with Macclesfield a few weeks later to secure Evans signature and bring the striker across the Pennines to the Coral Windows Stadium.

Evans endeavour and non stop running saw him earn a regular starting berth in McCall's side during the start of the season.

Like several others, Evans first strike for the Bantams came during City's topsy-turvy 5-4 win over Cheltenham.

The young striker's first low point of his fledging Bantams career came in late September at Morecambe when was harshly sent off for challenging for a loose ball with home goalkeeper Barry Roche.

He bounced back from that blow though to remain a potent and dangerous weapon in McCall's attacking arsenal.
