Stuart McCall gave former Brentford striker Alex Rhodes a deal until the New Year which was extended to the end of the season.
Rhodes is generally considered to be a striker, but his pace means that he is also effective as a left-winger.
He started his career with Newmarket Town in the 2003-2004 season.
After signing for Brentford and breaking into their first team, he suffered a serious knee injury against Walsall after a foul from Paul McShane in January 2005 causing him to be out of football for over a year, but he now seems to have fully recovered, although he never managed to fully break back into the Bees' first team.
His close skills were evident when he turned the A.F.C. Bournemouth defence to score the only goal of the last game of the 2003-2004 season to guarantee Brentford's League One survival.
In October 2006 he signed for League Two side Swindon Town on a months loan deal but was transfer listed by Scott Fitzgerald on his return to Griffin Park.
On March 9, 2007, Rhodes embarked on a new loan spell at Grays Athletic.
He was offered a new contract by Brentford manager Terry Butcher but did not accept it and left the Bees at the end of last season.
Rhodes had an unsuccessful trial with Darlington and featured in City's pre-season games recently to enable Stuart McCall to take a closer look at him.
