The 31-year old, released by Tranmere Rovers at the end of last season, signed for Bradford City on 1 July 2008 having been chased by a host of other clubs eager for his signature.
McLaren began his career at Luton Town in 1993 and stayed with the Hatters until 2001.
He then joined Sheffield Wednesday where he made over 90 appearances for the Owls before moving to Rotherham United.
Paul linked up again with former boss Ronnie Moore at Tranmere Rovers in the summer of 2006 and in his debut season at the centre of the Rovers midfield McLaren started 42 of Tranmere's 46 games in the Coca-Cola League One, and a further 43 last season.
