David Wetherall and Dean Windass will be spared LDV Vans Trophy duty at Morecambe on Tuesday.

Colin Todd has rung the changes as Bradford City enter the competition with a second-round tie against the Conference side.

Danny Cadamarteri, Lee Crooks and Steven Schumacher are also likely to be rested. Bobby Petta is set to return in midfield and Russell Howarth could replace Donovan Ricketts in goal.

Talking to the Telegraph & Argus Colin Todd said: It's an important competition and there will be a strong side but I will be making changes.

"If you look at the team, they've all played competitive games this season. It is not as if there are all youngsters in there.

"Some of my senior players will be left out, particularly the older ones who have been playing regularly.

"I don't want to risk any problems ahead of the Hartlepool game on Saturday. While we want to make progress on Tuesday night, the last thing you want is to pick up an injury to a key player in a game like this."

City head for Christie Park with a 20-man squad including 18-year youth team striker Joe Brown who scored his ninth goal of the season on Saturday in their League Cup exit at the hands of Preston North End.

The Bantams were embarrassingly bundled out of the LDV by Accrington Stanley last year but Todd is confident that there will be no repeat.

He said: "We won't be complacent because we want to do well in cups. There have been some good results against Tranmere and Rochdale this season and we are looking for another in this one.

"But we know that our work ethic has to match theirs and if the attitude isn't right then you've got problems. They'll come at us and battle for everything and we have to be brave on the ball.

"The money only really comes in when you make it through to the area semi-finals and we want to go a long way."

Morecambe, currently seventh in the Conference, have lost only once in eight league games on home soil.

Former Northern Ireland boss Sammy McIlroy will be in charge at Christie Park for the first time. He began his temporary reign on Saturday with a 1-0 win at Cambridge United.

Scorer Danny Carlton is expected to play despite a knock on his ankle but right-back John Hardiker, on loan from Stockport County is cup-tied.

McIlroy said: "The league is more important for us but it will be a good test against opposition from a higher level with quality players."

Blackburn Rovers played a Reserve game on the pitch on Monday night with no problems apart from fog later on which could return on Tuesday evening.
