Bradford City have been told to brace themselves for a torrid night at Morecambe.

The LDV Vans Trophy warning comes from a player who helped dump them out of the competition last season.

Former Tranmere Rovers, Manchester City and Wigan Athletic midfielder Ged Brannan was in the Accrington Stanley team which won 2-1 at Valley Parade 14 months ago.

Now with Morecambe, Brannan is gunning for City's scalp once again in the second-round tie at Christie Park on Tuesday.

"I can promise Bradford a very hard game," said the 33-year-old, who made nearly 450 league appearances. "Individually I think we're the best team in the Conference and if we can get that consistency together then we are tough to beat.

"Our home record is very strong and for ourselves, the LDV is up there with the FA Cup. It may not be a high priority for league clubs but this is like our cup final and I'm sure we'll have our strongest team playing."

Brannan, who left Accrington in September, believes his former club were not given due credit for their success at City.

He added: "We played really well that night but because Bradford had lost to a non-league side none of the reports seemed to mention that. It was all about them going out. I'm sure if we'd been another club from their division then people would have said more about our performance.

"Conference clubs always love the chance to play against league sides and I think the gap is getting closer every year. If anything, they should call it League Three because there is little between us and a lot of the teams in the bottom division."

Former Northern Ireland coach Sammy McIlroy has taken temporary charge of Morecambe while long-serving boss Jim Harvey recovers from a heart attack.
