Whaley looks to repay McCall's faith in him
After sealing his loan move to the Bantams, Simon Whaley spoke exclusively to Bradford City's official website about his arrival at Valley Parade.
The 24 year old has joined Stuart McCall's side on loan from League 1 Norwich City until January 2 and will immediately jump into City's squad for the match with Accrington Stanley this Saturday.
Whaley, who joined the Canaries in the summer, has suffered a stuttering start to his time at Carrow Road. The winger has only made 3 league appearances for Norwich this season and not featured at all for the club since early September.
Despite being disappointed at the way things have so far panned out for him at Norwich, Whaley is focused on giving his best for his new club.
"I am slightly disappointed things so far haven't worked out at Norwich as I would have liked since leaving Preston, but I don't feel I need to prove a point to anyone there.
"I feel the main point I need to prove is to myself and my family and of course the gaffer, (Stuart McCall) who has put faith in me to bring me to the club and I have to repay that back to him.
"It has been a frustrating season during parts of it, so I am happy just to play. I know I am here for six weeks and I am hoping I can keep playing well for the club until maybe past January".
The winger, though quick to acknowledge the size of the club, was equally aware thats its only points that win prizes and nothing else.
"As soon as you pull up to the ground and walk around the place, you get the impression straight away that this club shouldn't be in this division.
"But there is only way to change that though and that is to get the points on the board".
One thing that has stuck the Bantams new signing during his first morning in the club, is the dressing room atmosphere. Even at this early stage, Whaley feels he will no problems settling in.
"I've never played along side any of the guys at the football club, but I don't think that makes a difference in the modern game.
"I walked into the dressing room this morning and everyone seems welcoming and seems to look out for each other".
Before joining the Bantams, Whaley also enjoyed a loan period at League 2 rivals Rochdale.
Bolton born, Whaley played nine times for Dale over the months of September, October and November and helped the Lancashire club into the automatic promotion slots.
His time at Spotland is something that he feels will stand him in good stead for life at the Coral Windows Stadium.
"At my time with Rochdale I came across a lot of the teams, that looking at the fixture list, I'll come up against with Bradford, so I am sure that will help.
"The Championship and League 2 are not million miles apart, there are some good teams in this league.
"During my time at Rochdale I noticed that a lot of fitness comes into this league, but I know what I am up against and I am just here to play".
One of Whaley's matches with Rochdale was a defeat against Accrington Stanley - the Bantams opponents on Saturday.
"When I was at Rochdale, we lost to Accrington Stanley a few weeks back, which was disappointing.
"I look forward to hopefully rectifying that with Bradford tomorrow (Saturday)".
