Bradford City manager Stuart McCall has completed the signing of giant defender Steve Williams.

The centre half has put pen to paper on a one year deal, with an option for a further year, to sign his first professional contract in football.

Williams,22, has impressed McCall since his arrival to the club on trial, so much so the Bantams boss has moved quickly to snap up the former Bamber Bridge defender and ensure he will start the season in claret & amber.

McCall's move for Steve Williams is City's fifth signing of the summer, after the Bantams have already concluded deals for  Zesh Rehman, Gareth Evans, Jonathan Bateson & Simon Ramsden.

Speaking earlier to www.bradfordcityfc.co.uk, McCall expressed his delight over securing Williams signature

"Steve's strong, physical and quick - he ticks all the boxes, I'm delighted to have him on board.

" In training and the two games he's played, Steve has done really well and he has done everything asked of him"

The move from amateur to the professional ranks is traditionally a tough one, however the Bantams boss thinks it will be a bonus for Williams. McCall feels the big defender will only benefit from the regular training that comes with full time football.

" Training with him everyday now, we feel we can improve him tactically and techincally and therefore nuture his game even further

"He has settling in really well in training and around the club, so I see no reason why we can't improve him as a player now he is going to be full time"

The Bantams boss also spoke of his desire to complete the signing of Williams sooner rather than later to warn off any potential suitors.

"We had to move quickly or risk losing him as other clubs were being alerted by Steve's performances.

"When (Burnley manager) Owen Coyle spoke to me after our match, he though Steve was one of our first teamers, not a trialist, so that says it all really"

Williams will now fight it out with Zesh Rehman and Matthew Clarke to be one of McCall's centre backs when the real action kicks off on 8th August. A task McCall thinks Williams will be more than up to.

"He's hungry and desperate to be footballer and with those ingredients, plus his sheer physical presence, I am sure he will be an asset to us and keep Zesh & Clarky (Matthew Clarke) on their toes".

Williams will play his first fixture as a fully fledged Bantam this Saturday against York at KitKat Crescent.
