Stuart McCall wants to keep Dean Furman at City for the whole season.

The Rangers rookie, who has started the last two games, is currently at Valley Parade until January 5.

But if he maintains his early form then McCall will be straight on the phone to his old manager Walter Smith to push to extend the deal.

Talking to the Telegraph & Argus McCall said: "We'll see how Dean goes but we would look to lengthen his stay if he does well for us.

"It's early days yet but he's enjoying himself here. I know he had settled in well prior to getting in the first team.

"I'm pleased with what Dean's done and I still believe there's more to come from him. His game has got a bit of everything.

"He's got good energy to get around the pitch, can put his foot in, has real ability and can finish with both feet. That's the sort of all-round play that I like in midfield.

"He is always looking for the ball and is happy in possession. You can tell that he's been schooled well with Chelsea and now Rangers and he's got a really good attitude towards the game."

Furman's only senior experience before heading south of the border was a brief appearance as a Rangers substitute in May.

After making his first start in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat against Leeds United, he has stepped in for the injured Lee Bullock for the Shrewsbury and Luton games and provided one of the few shining lights in two disappointing performances.

McCall added: "Dean has felt part of it from day one but the more games he plays, I'm sure he will really come on.

"We are under no pressure from Rangers to play him. Ally McCoist knew how we'd been doing when Dean came down and knew he'd have to bide his time.

"But obviously Bully got his injury so the chance is there for Dean now to kick on and make the shirt his own for the rest of his loan period."
