The Bantams brought the curtain down on their 2011/2012 campaign with a creditable goalless draw against League 2 champions Swindon Town.

On the front-foot for the most part, City had a number of decent scoring chances throughout the season-ending fixture and probably deserved victory from their contest with the division's top-ranked side.

The result of the game seemed to matter little to the 1,255 travelling supporters, who celebrated Swindon's praiseworthy season with Paolo Di Canio's men for long after the full-time whistle.

But with James Hanson and Nahki Wells, in particular, looking a real threat at times, however, the Bantams' final day display should have given City fans some encouragement that it could be them in the mood for a party in twelve months time.

On more than one occasion in the match Wells tested Swindon 'keeper Wes Fotheringham after getting on the end of a precise flick-on from strike-partner Hanson.

The Bermudian forward, in fact, enjoyed decent scoring chances either side of half-time break thanks to Hanson assists but each time he was denied by Fotheringham.

Despite Hanson and Wells' contribution to City's cause, it was actually the recalled David Syers who was at the heart of City's best scoring opportunity of the game around twenty-five minutes from the end.

The midfielder drew Fotheringham out of his goal after collecting up Will Atkinson's long ball forward but he could only strike straight at the Swindon shot-stopper when through on goal.

Swindon enjoyed a late flurry in the match as Jon McLaughlin, who started the match instead of Matt Duke, was forced to tip over a Paul Caddis free-kick before Paul Benson hit the side-netting around five minutes later.

The large travelling support were left screaming for a penalty either side of those opportunites when the ball appeared to accidently strike Simon Ramsden's arm in the area but nothing was given.

The draw sees City reach the fifty point mark and finish 18th in the final League 2 table of the season.

The result also means Parkinson's men end the campaign with only one home defeat since 19 November - a run of 15 league and cup matches.

Along with McLaughlin and Syers, Andrew Davies was also brought back into Parkinson's side as the Bantams boss made three changes from the side that started at Cheltenham Town last weekend.

Syers took the place of the injured Ritchie Jones (back), while Guy Branston and Matt Duke were not even included among City's substitutes.

Adam Baker, who would go onto make his senior debut as a second half substitute, and fellow apprentice Forrayah Bass were named on the Bantams' bench, however.

Before the game, in true sporting fashion, City formed a guard of honour to welcome Swindon onto the pitch to respect their achievement of winning the league title.

Swindon and the Bantams then joined together just kick off for a minute's silence to remember the 56 victims of the Valley Parade fire disaster nearly 27 years ago.

Once proceedings got underway it wasn't long before Parkinson's men found themselves on the attack.

With less than three minutes on the clock, Syers saw a goal-bound shot smartly blocked by Jay McEveley in the area before the midfielder then fired at Fotheringham from outside the area shortly afterwards.

McLaughlin had to be alert to just beat former Bantams loanee Lee Holmes to a back-pass from Simon Ramsden, but City were soon testing Swindon's defence again when the right back's free-kick into the area caused a mini goalmouth scramble.

Both Andrew Davies and Ricky Ravenhill tried to get a shot away as the ball bobbled around the Robins' penalty area but the visitors were eventually able to clear.

Swindon's first real attack forward came as a result of a foul given away by Rob Kozluk for a late tackle on his fellow full back Nathan Thompson, something which earned City's left back the first booking of the game.

From the resulting free-kick, Ramsden had to smash clear from right under the nose of Aden Flint inside the area after Hanson's attempted header clear had hit the back of Luke Oliver.

The ball found Matt Ritchie lurking at the far corner of City's penalty area seconds later but his half-volley for goal sailed well wide of the target.

City didn't waste any time getting back on the attack, however, when Wells fired the ball across the box for Hanson to strike straight at Fotheringham from a decent position inside the area.

With Thompson still struggling after his clash with Kozluk, the Swindon was taken off for Chris Smith just after the twenty minute mark.

As the half progressed and with City still getting the better of a side perhaps a little lacklustre because of their previous achievements in the season, the Bantams threatened again when Fotheringham had to claw away a deep Kyel Reid free-kick from right underneath the nose of Hanson at the far post.

Just past the half hour mark Swindon levelled up the caution count when McEveley was finally booked after a number of fouls on Wells within the half.

The pair were then involved again minutes later when Wells' flick for goal following a Kozluk throw-in into the area seemed to clip McEveley's arm. There were mild appeals for a spot-kick but play was waved on.

The final two bright moments of the half, unsurprisingly given their play up until that point, fell to City.

With two minutes left before the half time break Reid had a golden opportunity to play Wells into space just outside Swindon's area but he elected to shot himself and he could only fire high into the T.L Dallas Stand behind Fotheringham's goal.

Then on the stroke of half time Hanson flicked the ball into Wells' path inside the area but Fotheringham produced a decent save to keep the Bermudian striker out.

Fotheringham would deny Wells again minutes after the restart following another Hanson flick-on. Wells tried to latch onto the rebound but the Swindon 'keeper completed his duties and gathered.

McLaughlin competently dealty with low drives from John Bostock and Ritchie within minutes of each other at the other end before City engineered two chances that could easily have seen them in the lead.

Wells first went close when he latched onto Hanson's knock-down following a long Ramsden throw-in into the area. The Bermudian's neat flick for goal gave City fans hope but it eventually just rolled wide of the far post.

City's next chance in the match was even better then that when Will Atkinson played Syers through on goal.

Syers drew Fotheringham from his goal but the ball seemed to be stuck under his feet slighlty and he could only fire straight at the 'keeper despite only being about eight yards from goal.

After Paul Benson had cleared his lines when Fotheringham had spilled from a Reid free-kick minutes later, Syers then did have the ball in the net but the effort was ruled out following a foul by Hanson on Swindon's shot-stopper.

City were still looking the more forceful side at this point but the game did have the feel that it was drifting to a goalless conclusion the longer proceedings went by.

Davies saw a goal-bound header accidently blocked by Wells right in front of goal from a corner before Swindon broke forward with pace.

Bostock and Paul Caddis led a four on two break but the dangerous attack eventually ended with Swindon substitute Luke Rooney fired wide of McLaughlin's near post.

Parkinson gave young apprentice striker Adam Baker, who has been awarded a professional contract for next season, his senior debut for Wells nine minutes from time.

Baker struggling to get too many moments to impress, however, as Swindon seemed to finally wake up for the first time in the afternoon.

Atkinson saw his name in the book when he clipped Rooney twenty yards from goal before Caddis forced McLaughlin to tip over from the resulting free-kick.

Up for a half-cleared corner, Davies had a chance when he turned and fired at Fotheringham but Swindon's large travelling support when show screaming for a penalty when the ball seemed to hit Ramsden's hit.

Flint, who headed the ball back across the area before Ramsden's intervention, led the appeals but nothing was given.

The final chance of the match fell to Benson, who hit the side-netting from a tight angle, before referee Mr Salisbury blew the full time whistle without playing any injury time.
