City kicked off their pre-season with a 3-1 defeat at Farsley Celtic on Wednesday night - the third year in a row they have lost a friendly at Throstle Nest.

Talking to the Telegraph & Argus boss Stuart McCall said: "We can do a lot better and we will. We talked last season about giving goals away by individual errors and that was the case with all three.

"It wasn't a great start but we've got to learn from it."

City found themselves three down by half-time to goals from James Knowles, Andy Campbell and Dominic Krief. Barry Conlon pulled one back early in the second half with a penalty.

City fielded Paul McLaren and Paul Arnison for the first time while trialist goalkeeper Nick Colgan played 85 minutes. But there was no Michael Boulding after he picked up an ankle injury in training.

Farsley boss John Deacy said: "We played pretty well, particularly in the first half. We didn't show them any respect and I thought we were quite comfortable."
