Bradford City 1 Chesterfield 0
Peter Thorne reached a personal milestone and helped City to a long overdue home win on Monday afternoon.
Thorne's 16th-minute header was his 150th career league goal. And more importantly, it earned the Bantams only their second Valley Parade victory in six attempts.
Joe Colbeck, as busy as ever, began the move with a charge through the middle before releasing Ben Starosta in space on the right.
The full back's cross was perfect and Thorne did the rest, although Spireites keeper Barry Roche will feel he should have done better having got a hand to it.
Considering they are chasing a play-off spot, Chesterfield were poor for the opening 45 minutes. City had most of the play without really testing Roche's goal.
The visitors improved after the break and there were some anxious moments in the Bantams backline.
But Scott Loach pulled off two important saves from Dave Dowson and a blinder to deny Jamie Winter. Substitute Adam Smith also missed from close in.
Thorne was denied a second by a good block from Roche but City rode the pressure to earn the three points. It was also the first home clean sheet since January 12.
