"So why the heck should you be nervous? its a crazy situation"

Posted on: Tue 13 Apr 2010

I'd like to start by welcoming Sammy McIlroy, Mark Lillis and the staff from Morecambe to the Coral Windows Stadium.

At the end of last season I thought they were one of the best teams in League 2 and put on a tremendous run.

It even got to the point whenever they were playing teams up there I was really pleased because I fancied Morecambe to beat them.

They have obviously carried on the good work so it doesn't surprise me to see them in the play-off positions now.

I just think that may help us at the moment because it makes tonight's game one that the players should be looking forward to. Against a team going for the play-offs, it should be an open contest.

We still need another win to be sure of staying up. I can't see everybody at the bottom winning every game but we still need one more win to be mathematically secure.

I've said to the players that it's been a very frustrating season for us. But I still feel we've got lots to play for.

There is personal pride and we also want the team to show improvement to encourage the supporters to want to come back in their numbers again next season.

Our performance in the last home game against Macclesfield was nowhere near what we would expect and Burton away was only good for a certain period of the 90 minutes. I'm certainly looking for better this evening.

There have been pleasing points in the game from individuals. Jon McLaughlin and James O'Brien came in and really impressed me.

But I want to see the team go out and play with no fear. We've all got wonderful jobs and to be involved in football is brilliant.

So why the heck should you be nervous? It's a crazy situation.

I know how the players are capable of playing and I want to see more of that.

I don't want to make excuses but obviously I made my point about the pitch and the injuries haven't helped us. They are five players who would have been starting.

But you've got to deal with it and their absence has given other players the opportunity to get starts earlier than they probably expected.

I do intend to look at different things before the last game, maybe starting tonight.

Unfortunately Luke Oliver was called back by Wycombe on Saturday night because they got an injury to a central defender. I would just like to thank him for his time here.

Enjoy the game,

Peter Taylor
