"I'm determined to impress them enough to get offered the job permanently"

Posted on: Mon 22 Mar 2010

I'd like to start by welcoming Steve Cotterill and his staff from Notts County to the Coral Windows Stadium.

They are going very well and have got some good players for this level. I also thought Dave Kevan did a brilliant job as caretaker manager there.

We've had two games since my last notes and I was really pleased we got the win here against a very good Aldershot team. We showed great character in coming back from going a goal down.

Unfortunately Saturday was a different story at Hereford.

I thought we started extremely well for the first 15-20 minutes but didn't score when we should have done.

Goals change everything and we conceded at the wrong time. Then I felt our performance dropped.

That has happened too many times this season and that is probably why we are 16th in the table.

The players have got to show more consistency and I'm looking for a response tonight.

We are playing against the promotion favourites and at the start of the season they were nailed on when Sven was there.

I know it's going to be a massive test but I still expect a response from us.

I was a little bit disappointed with the stories last week about me wanting the Hull job. You have to appreciate I was there for four years and I've got a lot of affection for them. It's a wonderful club.

But I can assure supporters here and the two chairmen that I've got the bug. I did say that to Julian Rhodes a couple of weeks ago.

I've got a determination that I wouldn't mind getting this club where it should be.

It has been a bit awkward when you're letting players go because by rights nobody knows if I'm going to be here next year. So maybe those decisions are a little bit strange.

I do appreciate that side of it but I do want to assure people that I'm not looking for another job. I've got a job and I've promised the club I will be here to the end of the season.

And I'm determined to impress them enough to get offered the job permanently.

I promised Julian and Mark when I took the job that I would do what I thought was right. I wanted them to trust my opinion.

That's why I've made some difficult decisions regarding allowing players to leave the club if I felt they wouldn't be starting for me now and next season.

I was very honest with the four players involved, Peter Thorne, Michael Boulding, Rory Boulding and Chris Brandon and I have to say they accepted the decision well.

I hope they all get sorted at other clubs.

In Peter's case, I'm not sure he will play on but I want him to come back and say goodbye to the fans.

I've also said that if he wants to think about the coaching side, we will help him in every way.

Finally, I would like to welcome Ryan Kendall on loan from Hull. He is an energetic young boy who never gives defenders a minute's peace.

Enjoy the game
