"They got what they deserved for making that journey with the result"

Posted on: Fri 05 Feb 2010

"Good afternoon and a warm welcome to Alan Knill, his staff, the players and supporters from Bury to today's game.

It seems a long time since we last played here against Cheltenham.

I'm sure it will be a good game to get back into. Every match against Bury since I've been in charge has always been a really tight affair.

If there's been a winner, it's only been by the odd goal and I wouldn't expect today to be any different.

Alan always gets his team well organised and working hard for him so we know exactly what to expect.

I'll be delighted if we can take the level of performance we showed at Gigg Lane into this afternoon. Then hopefully we can also get the result that we want because we certainly deserved something there.

We didn't play anywhere near as well at Torquay last week but got the three points and that should give everyone a massive lift.

Confidence is so important in football and the players have been buzzing on the back of that.

But we know we need to go on a run of games. Having won one isn't the be all and end all and we have to string a few results together.

Doing that builds belief and confidence because you get that winning mentality.

I remember as a player at Rangers going on a long unbeaten run and you just went out there feeling that you would always get something.

Likewise, on the other side when results keep going against you it can become very difficult to break that.

In football there's only one better feeling than winning and that's winning well, doing it with a bit of flair. That wasn't the case last week but the bottom line is that we got the three points and we've got to keep doing that.

I would again like to thank the fantastic support we received at Plainmoor. The numbers there was incredible and they kept backing the team even though we weren't playing particularly well.

They got what they deserved for making that journey with the result.

It was good to have Thorney and Steve O'Leary back in the dressing room last week. Thorney didn't want any longer than 15 minutes on the pitch. But he still came on and had an influence, heading down for Evo to get the winning goal.

He has been very disappointed not to be able to be out there helping when things haven't been going well. But he's come straight in and made an impact.

As for Steven, he's been desperately unlucky with the injury he's had. But he's a good pro and now we've sorted out a deal until the end of the season I'm sure he will have a part to play.

Omar was able to play another 90 minutes and he got stronger as it went on. He is always going to be a threat with his pace and ability and he's going to make a difference".

Enjoy the game and get behind the lads,
