Frank O'Rourke

Frank O'Rourke became a goal-scoring legend during his days with Bradford City before WW1.

His robust style and shoot-on-sight approach brought him a club record 88 League goals between April 1907 and March 1914, a record which stood until Bobby Campbell broke it in October 1984.

O'Rourke's 69-year old record included 63 goals scored in Division 1 and a joint record of five cases of scoring three goals or more in a match.

He topped the club's scoring charts in three seasons including their Division 2 Championship campaign of 1907/08 and won an FA Cup winners medal in 1911 where some record books credit him with scoring City's winning goal.

He joined Bradford City in April 1907 after a fine career in Scotland with Airdrieonians, Albion Rovers and Airdrionians again (with whom he won a Scottish Division 2 Championship medal).

He scored in his only International appearance against Ireland just before he joined Bradford City.

After retiring from League football, he continued to captain City's Reserve side still turning out in an emergency until his playing contract was terminated in September 1922 when he was City's coach.

Frank was first team trainer from June 1922 to July 1926 before retiring to his place of birth in Scotland - Bargeddie where he died on Christmas Eve 1954, aged 77.
