Dickie Bond
He was certainly one of Bradford City's greatest stars, notching up over 300 1st Division appearances and 60 goals after joining City from Preston North End in May 1909 for a fee of £950.
Bond was born in Garstang in 1883 and began playing football with the Royal Artillery prior to signing professional forms at Preston in August 1902.
At Deepdale he gained a Division 2 Championship medal in 1904 and two years later was a regular member of their team who finished Runners-Up to the League Championship.
He played for England and represented the Football League but nothing could compensate him for missing the 1911 FA Cup Final when he was suspended for using 'improper language' to the crowd at Woolwich Arsenal.
He was taken prisoner in the First World War by the Germans but returned in 1919, still in fine form.
Following City's relegation he signed for Blackburn Rovers in May 1922 and in August 1923 he moved to Lancaster Town for a season.
His League career brought him 96 goals in 473 appearances despite losing four seasons to the War.
Bond became a publican and died in Preston on 25 April 1955, aged 71.
