Scottish Youth International striker John Hendrie proved to be one of Bradford City's most consistent players in recent times.

Hendrie arrived at Valley Parade from Coventry City in June 1984 and the first game he missed was the final match of the 1987/88 season when he was serving a suspension.

He was outstanding in City's 3rd Division Championship side and continued to show impressive form as the Bantams strove for a First Division place.

He quickly attracted the attention of bigger clubs and moved to Newcastle United for a fee of £500,000 in June 1988.

Born in Lennoxtown in October 1963, Hendrie joined Coventry City as an apprentice in June 1980 signing full-time forms the following May.

However he was never able to establish himself in the Sky Blues' first team and joined Bradford City after a loan period at Hereford United.
