Don Hutchins

Don Hutchins was a favourite during his seven and a half year stay at the club, pleasing the City fans with his running and skillful forward play which brought him his fair share of goals.

In 1976 he became the first City play to win a PFA nomination for a divisional side when they selected him for their Division 4 side.

The following season he turned down a £35,000 move to Portsmouth but two years later was in dispute with City over terms. He signed a new contract in July 1980 but made only occasional appearances and eventually reverted to being a non-contract player.

Hutchins was a good schoolboy footballer who played with the North Riding and Middlesbrough teams.

Raich Carter signed him on junior forms for Middlesbrough but his first taste of trophy success came when he played for Stockton Juniors.

In February 1966 he signed for Leicester City and made his League debut in a Division 1 game at Burnley in April 1968. He moved on to Plymouth Argyle in July 1969 for a fee of £6,000 and was their leading scorer in 1970/71.

He returned north joining Blackburn Rovers in July 1972 but was never a first choice at Ewood Park and in June 1974 Bradford City signed him in part-exchange for Graham Oakes. City also collected a cash balance of £10,000 in the deal.

In his 15-year career he made 397 League appearances scoring 73 goals.
