Trevor Hockey
Trevor Hockey displayed his midfield qualities for seven different
League clubs in a career that took in over 500 senior appearances and nine Welsh caps.
Born in Keighley, where his father had moved to play Rugby League, Trevor made his League debut for City as a 16-year old winger in the 1959/60 season. He signed professional forms at the end of that campaign and his tigerish displays soon attracted the attention of the top scouts.
In 1961 he signed for Nottingham Forest for a then-record fee of £15,000 before moving on to Newcastle United with whom he won a Division 2 Championship medal in 1965.
November 1965 saw Trevor move on to Birmingham City where he was to enjoy the best years of his career.
In 1971 he was a Sheffield United player and it was while playing at Bramall Lane that he became the first British player to make a full International appearance by virtue of his father's nationality rather than his own birthplace.
He moved to Norwich City in February 1971 in an exchange deal involving Jim Bone and cash, Aston Villa (£40,000 in June 1973) before returning to Valley Parade for £12,500 in June 1974.
He later had spells with Athlone Town as player-manager, Stalybridge Celtic (Manager) and Keighley Town (which he helped form) as well as playing in North America.
Tragically in April 1987, aged only 43, Trevor died after suffering a heart attack while playing in a 5-a-side game.
