Yeates joins City

3 July 2013

City have secured their second signing in successive days after completing a deal to bring talented winger Mark Yeates to the Coral Windows Stadium.

Following in the footsteps of Tuesday's new recruit Jason Kennedy, Yeates, 28, put pen to paper on a two-year deal with City this Wednesday lunch-time before meeting up with his new team-mates in the afternoon.

The Irish-born right winger joins the Bantams on a free transfer after leaving Championship club Watford during the summer.

Yeates has, in fact, enjoyed most of his career football at Championship level, making City's capture of the winger all the more impressive.

He featured 30 times and scored four goals for the Hornets last season as he played his part in helping Gianfranco Zola's men into the Championship Play-Offs.

Last season's campaign with Zola's Watford was one of two seasons Yeates spent at Vicarage Road after joining the London club from Sheffield United in July 2011.

Along with his time at Watford and Sheffield United, Yeates has also played in England's second tier for North East giants Middlesbrough.

Yeates' move to Valley Parade will reunite Bantams boss Phil Parkinson with the winger for the third time after the City chief had previously signed him on loan during his time in charge of Hull City and Colchester United respectively.

Yeates, who began his professional career with Tottenham Hotspur, was actually a main player in Colchester's promotion-winning campaign of 2006 as Parkinson led the U's into the Championship.

Following the completion of Yates' move to Valley Parade, Parkinson said: "I think Mark will be a wonderful addition to the squad. He has played most of his career at Championship level and we feel he'll bring a lot of ability to the football club."

Yeates himself added: "I have taken a number of phone calls in the past few weeks from clubs since my departure from Watford, but I just get a good feeling from Bradford.

"You can see that the club is progressing and anyone couldn't help but have noticed Bradford last season with the cup run and getting promoted into League 1.

"Bradford is a big club on the up, and the deciding factor for me was the manager.

"I have worked for the gaffer at a couple of clubs in the past, in particular with Colchester when we got promoted into the Championship.

"He was just so enthusiastic when I spoke to him recently about what he wants to achieve here and how he wants to push the club forward.

"This move just seems to be a good fit for me."
