TAYLOR SET TO FEATURE AGAINST UCD

15 July 2014

Central defender Matt Taylor is set to make his return from injury this Tuesday evening during the Bantams' Irish friendly against UCD AFC.

Phil Parkinson's men play the first of their two pre-season fixtures in Ireland against Airtricity Premier Division side UCD tonight at their UCD Bowl ground.

Following his return to full training last week, Taylor is expected to play some part in the friendly after five months sidelined with a foot injury.

Taylor needed surgery after damaging his foot in a behind-closed-doors fixture with Leeds United back in February. He has spent the whole of this summer working through his rehab programme in a bid to get back to full fitness.

Parkinson said: "Matt will play some part tonight (Tuesday).

"If, as expected, he comes through tonight, he will also be involved in Saturday versus Shelbourne as well.

"He has done all the training with us here in Ireland so far and he's looked good."

With trialists Nick Arnold and Angelo Balenta, plus out-of-contract duo Jon McLaughlin and Raffaele De Vita, also in the squad for this Tuesday's UCD fixture, Parkinson is once again likely to ring the changes during the friendly.

Unlike Saturday's victory at Guiseley, however, Parkinson says he will be looking to give some of his players a bit longer than the 45 minutes they got under their belts at Nethermoor.

He continued: "With UCD, we know their manager - Aaron Callaghan - well. He used to play with Steve (Parkin) at Stoke City.

"He is very professional in the way he goes about his business so we know that UCD are going to be a very fit side, which is great for us because we want a physical test.

"Most of the lads who start will go 60 minutes in the game.

"Most of the lads who begin from the bench will get 30 minutes. We will then flip that around on Saturday so the whole squad gets roughly the same amount of minutes from the two fixtures combined."

After not being risked for the Guiseley game, strikers Oliver McBurnie (back) and Aaron Mclean (calf) won't feature against UCD either.

James Meredith will miss the friendly as well after taking a knock to his foot in training on Monday.

Parkinson added: "We've had a bit of a set-back yesterday with Mezzer (James Meredith) when he hurt his foot.

"We don't think it is too bad but it is in the area where he fractured it last year.

"As we say though, we hope it isn't a major problem but he didn't train today.

"Aaron Mclean is getting better - he did some running with (Head Physio) Matt (Barrass) yesterday - while Oli McBurnie is back in training today.

"Aaron and Mez will definitely miss tonight - Oli is training with us now though and should be in contention for Saturday."
