ROUTIS ENJOYING HIS NEW ROLE

25 March 2015

City's versatile performer, Christopher Routis, says he is enjoying his new advanced role in the Bantams' midfield.

After starting the season in defence featuring at centre half and right back, Routis has played his three most recent matches for City on the right-hand side of midfield.

Following his goal in last weekend's home draw with Fleetwood Town, the Frenchman is beginning to show signs that he can flourish in his new position.

Routis said: "I am enjoying playing in midfield.

"When I play in midfield, I know I have to run more than when I play at centre back. This position is very different to centre back.

"I still have to learn in midfield but I feel better and better in this position.

"Fil(ipe Morais) plays in a similar position to me a bit now so I can learn from him. He talks to me a lot.

"He helped me a lot when I played in midfield for the first time.

"He was injured at the time so he wasn't playing but he gave me a lot of advice and talked to me a lot.

"He told me 'Chris, stay calm, you know you can play this position but you need to run!'

"I listened to him and I know now that you have to run hard!"

After roughly nine months in England, Routis, who spent four years playing in Switzerland with Servette before his move to the Coral Windows Stadium, says he is settling in well to a different country.

Routis added: "I am really enjoying my time here in Bradford.

"At the start, I spoke very little English - probably none at all really.

"I was happy to start with coming to Bradford City but now I am more settled in, I am very happy here.

"English football is different to football in Switzerland.

"In England, the players run more and they fight more - they push right until the end.

"In Switzerland, the games can be a bit more tactical.

"You can play very well in England but if you don't fight and work hard, you can still lose the game.

"The games here in England are really hard - but I like it.

"My English is better but sometimes it is still difficult because of certain accents.

"I go out to shops and cafes though and I listen and talk to people and it helps me to improve."
