PARKINSON PLEASED WITH CITY'S MENTALITY

29 March 2015

Bantams boss Phil Parkinson was pleased to see City learn from last weekend's draw with Fleetwood Town after his side secured a 2-0 home win over Oldham Athletic at the Coral Windows Stadium this Saturday.

A week after two late Fleetwood goals at Valley Parade snatched an unlikely point for the Cod Army, a double from Billy Clarke helped Parkinson's men on their way to three important points against Oldham.

After opening the scoring in the 71st minute, Clarke's second goal of the match came deep in injury time as the Bantams professionally saw out the final few minutes of the game.

Following talks during the week with his squad about game management, Parkinson was encouraged with how City controlled the match, especially once they took the lead, with the club's home support also playing their part.

Parkinson said: "We were in control for long periods of the game and we are just so pleased we could get the win secured.

"We were hurting after last weekend's draw to Fleetwood Town and the last five minutes of that game. At Bradford, however, we hurt together.

"The fans were hurting, so was I, so was the players, but you could sense around the ground today (Saturday) a togetherness between the players, the staff and the fans in the stands.

"Everyone was pulling in the right direction and it was a great victory for us.

"We learned our lessons from the Fleetwood match.

"You could hear the players on the pitch during the game - their mentality was right and there was a real resiliency about us. We seemed determined to see the game through.

"We spoke to the players on Thursday about how to handle a game situation if and when we were winning.

"We spoke about pressing, keeping high up the pitch and putting pressure on the ball. We did that and we ended up scoring a second goal because of it."

The Oldham win moves City to within two points of the Play-Off places ahead of a game in hand against Chesterfield on Tuesday at the Coral Windows Stadium.

Despite this Saturday's important win though, Parkinson refused to entertain talk about the top six, preferring to simply focus on the visit of Chesterfield to Valley Parade.

Parkinson added: "We are not speaking about the Play-Offs yet - we can only talk about the next game.

"Everyone has something to play for at this stage of the season and there are so many teams in the mix around us.

"It is so tight in terms of the difference between teams. Oldham beat Rochdale convincingly during the week then they've lost here today. Rochdale have won today, it is just so tight.

"We just have to concentrate properly on what we need to do to prepare for Tuesday."
