Parkinson looking for a repeat

20 March 2014

Bantams boss Phil Parkinson is hopeful that City can keep up their current performance levels when they travel to Shrewsbury Town this Saturday.

Parkinson's squad make the trip to Shrewsbury this weekend having won their last game on the road at Colchester United. City also played some eye-catching football during their drawn fixture with Gillingham last weekend - a match many felt the Bantams deserved to win.

While City were drawing with Gillingham, this Saturday's opponents were on their way to picking up a highly-commendable goalless draw at league leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers. Shrewsbury's previous game ahead of this weekend, however, saw them lose 1-0 at Colchester on Tuesday - a game Parkinson attended.

The defeat for Shrewsbury left them still sitting in the League 1 relegation zone and four points from safety.

Parkinson said: "It will be interesting to see what Shrewsbury do.

"I went to watch them at Colchester on Tuesday and they started with three at the back - a similar system to the one they had used at Wolves the previous weekend. It wasn't as effective for them as it was at Wolves, however, and they changed to 4-4-2.

"With that in mind, we have to be open in our thoughts with regards how they play. We have to also concentrate on our own play and our levels of performance. We want to match the same sort of performances we have put in for the last couple of games.

"As ever, we know Saturday will be a really competitive game. We have to go into the match with a really positive mindset and look to take the game to them. When we've had wins away from home this season and last season, it has always been when we've played on the front-foot and in a really positive manner.

"We need to do that again."

After the fixture with Shrewsbury, City will have only nine games left of their 2013/2014 campaign.

With six weeks of the season still to run, however, and five of those matches coming up in just fourteen days, Parkinson has declared that there is still a long way to go yet and a lot of hard work still required.

Parkinson added: "Ten games is still a large chunk of the season and we have to aim to take as many of the available points that remain as possible.

"As I always say though, we will just take it one game at a time as they come along.

"The squad is going to be needed without a shadow of a doubt. I think every manager in the country will be saying the same sort of thing around about now.

"Some players have played a lot this season and have games in their legs, others haven't played so many. Their fresh legs could be important in these final stages of the season."
