Looking for a big display

10 April 2014

Bantams assistant Steve Parkin says City are looking for a big performance when they travel to the New York Stadium for their televised clash with Yorkshire neighbours Rotherham United this Friday evening.

The Sky Sports cameras will be in town to see the Bantams take on the Millers as Phil Parkinson's side look to take a giant leap towards securing their place in League 1 for next season.

Victory for Parkinson's men would take them above the magical fifty-point barrier but City will be up against a Rotherham side who have already secured their spot in the end-of-season Play-Offs.

The Bantams' recent record in matches with Rotherham isn't too favourable either - something Parkin says City are keen to put right on Friday.

Parkin: "We want to make sure we put on a good performance, not just for the T.V, but for our fans in the stadium on the night.

"We know we will have to play well against a good side, who are having a terrific season.

"This is a very important game for us for a number of reasons and it is one we are very much looking forward to.

"This game is classed as a local derby - a Yorkshire derby - and we know that we haven't had the run of results we would have liked recently against Rotherham.

"We know we've not given a good encounter of ourselves yet in the two games we've played at their new ground (New York Stadium) so we want to put that right.

"Rotherham are notoriously quick starters and we also know all about the amount of late goals they have scored in games so we will have to make sure the lads are fully revved up for this one.

"We have to be ready for them."

Leading up to their trip to Rotherham, City have kept three clean sheets in their last four away matches - picking up seven points in the process.

The Bantams head into Friday's match off the back of a disappointing home defeat at the hands of Oldham Athletic, however, leading Parkin to call for City to keep their standards high for their final five matches of the league season.

Parkin said: "We are looking for consistency.

"All too often, certainly over the last four or five weeks, we've had some good results but then followed it up with a really bad one.

"We've done just this recently. We thoroughly deserved the win at Leyton Orient, probably should have won at Coventry City, but then followed it up with a disappointing performance against Oldham.

"We must look forwards now though. We have some very important games coming up. Friday night is obviously a big one for us and then we have the busy Easter weekend coming up next weekend.

"We want to finish the season as strong as we can.

"Some of our away performances recently have been very, very good - Colchester, Orient and Coventry - and we must look for that again against a very good Rotherham side."
