Goals from James Hanson and Kyle Bennett - his first for the goal - ensured a comfortable victory for Phil Parkinson's men - a win that pushes City back into the top half of the League 1 standings.
On a night when a number of Bradford players stood out due to commendable performances, Parkin was delighted with all aspects of City's play at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
Parkin said: "It was just about as good as it gets really in terms of an away performance.
"A clean sheet, two good goals and opportunities to make it more - we had a bit of everything.
"There were some really good performances for us out there tonight (Tuesday). Defensively we looked strong and attacking we always looked a threat.
"It was thoroughly enjoyable to watch from the touchline - the complete away performance really. It was a great team effort by everybody"
With Gary Jones back up north recovering from illness, the ever-dependable Stephen Darby was handed the captain's armband in his place for the Colchester fixture.
Speaking about Darby, Parkin added: "It is no more than he deserves really.
"He is a 100% professional all the time and he takes his job very seriously.
"He does everything right, he looks after himself and it was a nice pat on the back to him to show him that we do acknowledge the effort and commitment he puts into the club.
"He thoroughly deserved to be given the armband."
