INTERNATIONAL ROUND-UP PART 1

9 October 2015

We're almost half-way through now a busy period of international fixtures involving a number of Phil Parkinson's squad members.

Reece Burke, James Meredith and Rory McArdle have all seen their respective countries take part in matches recently, while Lee Evans is expected to play some part in Wales Under 21s' fixture in Denmark this Friday evening.

Burke, on loan to City from West Ham United, was an unused substitute on Wednesday for England Under 20s' 3-1 over the Netherlands in their opening match of the Mercedes-Benz Elite Cup.

The City loanee centre half is expected to feature at some point, however, in at least one of England's other two matches against Turkey on Saturday and hosts Germany the following Tuesday.

Fellow Bantams defender James Meredith was also an unused substitute for Australia during their 2-0 loss in Jordan on Thursday.

Meredith was selected for the Australian national side for the first time in his career but he wasn't given the opportunity to try and prevent the Socceroos from slipping to defeat.

The reversal for the Aussies now means the Jordan leapfrog Australia to move top of their FIFA World Cup 2018 qualifying group.

Another member of City's back-line, Rory McArdle, was on the bench this Thursday evening to see Northern Ireland historically qualify for their first ever European Championships.

Although the defender didn't get on, he will have been able to join in with the celebrations as a 3-1 for the Irish over Greece in Belfast booked their spot in EURO 2016 in France - their first trip to a major tournament since 1986.

Northern Ireland travel to Finland on Sunday for their final qualifying match of the campaign.
