Egan arrives at City

5 November 2012

Sunderland defender John Egan has arrived in Bradford this Monday morning to complete his loan move from the Premier League side to Phil Parkinson's Bantams.

The twenty year-old central defender has penned a two month loan deal at the Coral Windows Stadium that will keep him with the Bantams until 5th January 2013.

Subject to receiving the relevant F.A and Football League clearances, Egan will now find himself in contention for a place in Parkinson's match-day squad for tomorrow night' npower League 2 home fixture with Chesterfield.

Egan, who has been capped at Under 17, 19 and 21 level for the Republic of Ireland, will wear squad number 22 during his time at Valley Parade.

Parkinson went to watch the Irish defender in Sunderland's Under 21s' match with Aston Villa last Thursday before swooping for his services.

The Bantams boss said: "He's competitive and looks both decent in the air and on the ground. I like what I've seen of him."

"We've done our homework on him and we've heard that his commitment and desire is first rate.

"Whenever we bring a player into the club, we always talk about getting the right characters in. John certainly seems to fit that bill.

"He's someone who is going to have a real go for us. I think he will blend in really well with the players we already have in the squad."

Egan, who is already friends with fellow Irish City defender Carl McHugh, joined Sunderland from home-town club Cork City in 2009.

The 6' 2'' centre back has yet to feature in the Black Cats' first team since his arrival at the Stadium of Light, but he has enjoyed loan spells earlier this calendar year at Sheffield United and Crystal Palace.
