Duo awarded pro deals

11 April 2013

Apprentice duo Scott Brown and Louie Swain have been awarded professional contracts with the football club for next season.

Brown, a central midfielder, has already featured in the first team this season in three F.A Cup ties, while Swain, a tall and powerful centre forward, was an unused substitute at Wigan Athletic in the Capital One Cup and at home to Northampton Town in the F.A Cup.

Once all the paperwork has cleared in regards the duo's deals, both Brown and Swain will be able to look forward to being part of Phil Parkinson's first team squad for next season.

Brown and Swain, both of whom featured in reserves' draw with Gateshead at the Coral Windows Stadium this Wednesday, are the only second year apprentices to be awarded professional contracts this season.

Parkinson said: "It is always a difficult time of year around now having to tell the apprentices about their futures.

"On the positive side of things though, we are pleased to tell fans that we are going to be offering professional contracts to Scott Brown and Louie Swain.

"Scott has progressed well this year and has already featured in the first team. We feel he is a player who will still improve more.

"Louie has a lot of good attributes we can work with. He is a big, strong, powerful front player. They have got onto the first rung of the ladder by getting themselves pro contracts, and both Louie and Scott know that the real hard work will start for them now."
