Davies signs new deal

8 June 2013

Influential defender Andrew Davies has committed his future to the football club by signing a new contract at the Coral Windows Stadium.

Davies, who played his part in City's promotion-winning victory over Northampton Town in last month's League 2 Play-Off Final, has penned a fresh two-year contract with the Bantams.

The popular centre back's current deal was due to expire this summer but the 28 year-old is now contracted to stay at Valley Parade until the end of June 2015.

Davies said: "When you have momentum with a group, plus the fact that I work well with the manager (Phil Parkinson), Steve Parkin and Nick Allamby, why would I want to change something that is working?

"The fact that they (Phil Parkinson, Steve Parkin and Nick Allamby) all signed up again recently was a major factor for me. After that point it really was a case of if they still want me here then I'll be happy to sign on again.

"I am so exciting about next season, and I am ready to come back bigger, stronger and better and ready to push on again.

"The players are a great bunch of lads here as well. That was another big reason (for signing) for me because I've been in some dressing rooms where players don't quite gel and it is not really enjoyable coming into work.

"When you have a group of players who work as hard as they do and get on so well like we do, it makes it enjoyable to come to training each morning.

"Getting promoted still hasn't really sunk in for me yet - it was a massive achievement getting out of League 2. Now moving onto League 1 and having the opportunity to go to good stadiums and test yourself against better players, I am just really looking forward to the challenge.

"I want my career to keep progressing, and the reason I have signed this new deal is because I believe my career can progress here at Bradford City."

Bantams boss Phil Parkinson added: "I am obviously pleased Andrew has chosen to sign on and stay here. He is an good signing for us and an important player to have in place for next season.

"I'm certainly looking forward to the prospect of continuing to work with him over the next couple of seasons at least."
