DARBY DOMINATES PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARDS

Popular right back Stephen Darby capped off a fine individual season by dominating City's end-of-season Player of the Year awards at the Coral Windows Stadium this Tuesday evening.

The 25 year-old won the club's main Telegraph & Argus/JCT600 Player of the Year title, while the Liverpudlian also retained his Players' Player of the Year award after first winning the trophy last season.

All the more remarkably, Darby secured his second consecutive Players' Player of the Year crown after being voted for the award by EVERY single one of his City team-mates.

As well as picking up the main two awards of the night, Darby also snapped up all four of the Player of the Year titles given out by City's main supporters' clubs - Shipley Bantams, Skipton Bantams, White Abbey Branch and the Friends of Bradford City, who once again organised the awards evening after first running the event last year.

In front of roughly 600 supporters and guests in the club's McCall Suite at Valley Parade, Darby received the Telegraph & Argus Most Consistent Player of the Year award as well, meaning the defender managed to collect all SEVEN trophies available to him on the night.

Speaking about Darby, Bantams boss Phil Parkinson, who was on hand to give the defender his Player of the Year trophy, had no doubt that the full back was fully deserving of his moment in the spotlight.

Parkinson said: "Stephen is the ultimate professional and the way he acts every day in training is a shining example of the standard for everyone else.

"He is a credit to himself and he deserves every accolade coming his way."

Darby himself was blown away with his magnificent haul of trophies for the night.

He added: "I am so proud to have received all of these awards tonight (Tuesday). I could never have expected this at the start of this evening. I would like to give a massive thank you to all of the fans who chose me for these awards and for all of the great support we have received throughout this season.

"We have some really great players here in this squad and they have all helped me to receive these awards tonight. I couldn't have done any of this without them. To be picked ahead of all of the other great players we have here at the club really does mean a lot to me.

"It is extra special to be selected by the rest of the lads and the fans for these awards. This is a very proud night for me."

While Darby's success was undoubtedly the highlight of the night, there was reason to celebrate for other members of the Bantams family.

Striking sensation Oliver McBurnie (pictured) won the Youth Team Player of the Year after netting 29 goals for the club's Under 18s this season. Carl McHugh also retained his Bradford City's Supporters' Trust Under 25s Player of the Year title.

After receiving 62% of the vote, Kyel Reid's stunning effort at Walsall last October won the club's Goal of the Season.
