Final Third Development League Cup - Group A
Tuesday 22 September 2015

A number of Phil Parkinson's first team squad were given game-time as City's reserves ran out comfortable winners in their Final Third Development League Cup - Group A tie at Morecambe.

Steven Davies, Billy Knott, Nathan Clarke, Tony McMahon, Luke James and Christopher Routis all played in City's 4-0 win at Morecambe's Globe Arena.

Davies and Knott were substituted midway through the second period but Clarke, McMahon, James and Routis were all given the whole match.

Fellow pros Sam Wright, Dylan Mottley-Henry, Greg Leigh and Joe Cracknell also started the game.

The Bantams enjoyed a two-goal half time lead thanks to efforts from Clarke and Davies before another strike from Davies early after the restart and a late goal from James from wrapped up a convincing victory.

The match was City's second at Morecambe in successive Tuesday's after a youthful XI drew 1-1 with the Shrimps in the league last week.

City's first goal came from a wide free-kick delivery from McMahon which the hosts failed to clear.

Davies and James both had efforts blocked before Clarke crashed home a drive from around eight yards out at the second attempt.

With City completely dominated proceedings as the half progressed, their second goal came when Davies headed home McMahon's corner just past the half hour mark.

Davies doubled his tally for the afternoon shortly after the break when he led a purposeful City counter-attack from a Morecambe corner.

As the striker drove towards the box from around the halfway, his initial progress was halted by a slide tackle from Ben Williams, but Davies still managed to drill a low drive under the body of home goalkeeper Niall Maher from just inside the area.

The Bantams completed the scoring a minute from time through the hard-working James.

The busy forward saw his initial strike blocked by defender James Borlase, looping it up in the air and allowing him to knock the ball past the on-rushing Maher and into an empty net.
