City net duo

18 August 2012

On the eve of their League 2 opener with Gillingham, City have made an exciting double swoop to further add to Bantams boss Phil Parkinson's options for the season ahead.

Defender Carl McHugh and attacker Zavon Hines put pen to paper on deals at the Coral Windows Stadium this Friday before boarding City's team coach for their trip south.

Both McHugh, who can feature as a centre half and a left back, and Hines, who is equally comfortable on either flank or up front, have penned a one year deals. In Hines' case, however, the club have in place the option to extend his contract by a further year.

The pair, who are both pictured in the away gold and black strip City will wear at Gillingham this Saturday, have both been training with the Bantams in recent weeks.

McHugh will wear squad number 16 and Hines number 20 during the 2012/2013 season.

Subject to receiving the relevant clearances, both McHugh and Hines will now be in contention to feature against Gillingham this afternoon.

McHugh, 19, has been capped at Under 16 and Under 17 level for the Republic of Ireland.

As well playing in his native Ireland, the County Donegal-born defender has also previously enjoyed a spell with Premier League newcomers Reading.

Hines joins up with the Bantams after leaving Championship Burnley earlier this summer.

Before his time at Turf Moor, the 23 year-old winger spent four seasons in West Ham United's first team squad after turning professional with the London club.

While at Upton Park, Hines played alongside his new City team-mate Kyel Reid.

Despite being born in Jamaica, Hines has two England Under 21 caps to his name.
