Baker to leave City

28 May 2013

Young Bantams attacker Adam Baker is to leave the football club after being informed by City boss Phil Parkinson that he won't be offered a new contract at the Coral Windows Stadium.

Baker signed a one-year contract - his first as a pro - last summer after successfully being promoted up from the club's youth ranks.

The right winger, who can also play as a central striker, made only four substitutes appearances during the 2012/2013 campaign though - all of which came in cup competitions.

Baker was on the pitch when City defeated Northampton Town and Wigan Athletic on penalties in the F.A Cup with Budweiser and the Capital One Cup respectively during the first part of the campaign.

The youngster also featured in the club's opening day extra time win at Notts County, again in the Capital One Cup.

Baker's fourth and final display for the first team came during the F.A Cup replay defeat at Brentford back in December.

The attacker also spent time away from Valley Parade on loan during last season, including a spell with near neighbours Bradford (Park Avenue).

After speaking with Baker this (Tuesday) morning, Parkinson said: "Adam is at a stage in his career where he needs to be playing regular first team football."

"We don't feel that we can offer that to him here at Bradford, especially given our recent promotion into League 1.

"He has displayed an excellent attitude throughout this season just gone by though, and he certainly has the potential to kick on his career again.

"We certainly hope that he does just that. We wish Adam all the best for the future."

City's official website will continue to update supporters as and when any further transfer/contract news is confirmed by the club during the summer.
