The Bantams fell to a cruel defeat at the hands of Scunthorpe United in this Sunday's televised clash in Sky Bet League One.

In front of the Sky Sports cameras, Matt Crooks' late winner seven minutes from the end of normal time proved enough to secure the points for the hosts, despite Stuart McCall's side creating a host of scoring chances after the break.

City had led going into the interval after a quick-fire double from debutant Kevin Toner and Alex Jones cancelled out Ivan Toney's early opener for the Iron.

Toney level things up early after the restart but City responded by engineering a number of promising opportunities.

Rory McArdle and Timothee Dieng forced good saves out of Scunthorpe 'keeper Luke Daniels, while Billy Clarke and James Meredith fired wide from decent positions.

Charlie Wyke and Toner also found themselves on the end of openings as City continued to look the more likely scorers in the second period.

It was Scunthorpe, however, who found the game's crucial fifth goal when Crooks powered home a header from a corner.

McCall's Bantams laid siege to the Scunthorpe goal afterwards, with Romain Vincelot, Mark Marshall, Daniel Devine, Wyke and Meredith all going close, but Scunthorpe somehow hung on for a barely-deserved victory.

23min: Toney's low ball into the six yard box is cut out by Romain Vincelot. Jordan Clarke is first onto the loose ball inside the area but he fires over while under pressure.
