MARSHALL NAMED PLAYER OF THE YEAR

24 April 2017

Mark Marshall has been crowned City's Player of the Year for the 2016/2017 campaign, as the Bantams winger and team-mate Josh Cullen both enjoyed successful nights at the Club's end-of-season awards evening this Monday.

Marshall, who netted his sixth goal of the season during Saturday's 3-0 win over AFC Wimbledon, beat off competition from Cullen and James Meredith to claim the main Telegraph & Argus Player of the Year title.

Cullen had earlier been chosen as the JCT600 Players' Player of the Year by his fellow squad members, while Meredith was named the Friends of Bradford City Player of the Year.

Marshall claimed five awards in total on the night, including the Telegraph & Argus' Most Consistent Player, plus the Shipley Bantams and East Bierley Bantams Player of the Year titles.

The winger was also chosen as the Club's Community Champion for his work off the pitch during his player appearances across the season in the local area.

On top of his six goals so far this campaign, Marshall has also picked up eleven assists during a profitable period for the 29 year-old.

Following closely behind Marshall, Cullen was rewarded for a string of eye-catching performances by securing four awards himself.

The loanee midfielder was named the Club's Social Media Player of the Year, Supporters' Trust Under 25s Player of the Year and the White Abbey Supporters' Branch Player of the Year.

One of the other trophies up for grabs on the night went to young winger Ellis Hudson, who was chosen as the Club's Academy Player of the Year.

Charlie Wyke's memorable injury-time winner at home to Swindon Town last month was also named the Pulse 2 Commentary Moment of the Season.

After collecting his awards, Marshall said: "I am over the moon.

"I always get nervous when the manager picks the team on a Friday because I never take anything for granted.

"I think that drive to stay in the side and keep working hard has helped me to find a level of consistency in my game.

"I have been pleased with the way I have been playing this season but, equally, I know we have a lot of good players in this squad.

"So to get recognised like this by the fans and everyone at the club is an amazing feeling.

"This is an incredible honour but I know we still have work to do this season.

"I am delighted to win these awards but obviously our season isn't finished yet.

"I want to try and cap this all off with success on the pitch."
