McCALL'S UP FOR THE CUP!

24 January 2017

Bantams boss Stuart McCall says he is fully aware of the importance of Tuesday's Checkatrade Trophy quarter-final tie with Oxford United to the football club.

McCall's men travel south to Oxford's Kassam Stadium this Tuesday evening knowing victory in their sixth match of this season's competition will move them to within one game of a place in the grand final at Wembley.

The winners of the tie will also net £50,000, adding to the £40,000 gained for progressing past round three last time out.

In-form Oxford are currently favourites to win the Checkatrade Trophy with the bookies, City just behind them in the rankings as second favourites.

McCall is anticipating a tough encounter but he knows his side will be doing all they can to claim a spot in the last four.

The City chief said: "This competition is obviously important financially, and the players want to win for themselves as well.

"They want to win games of football, and I want them to win games of football, as it breeds confidence.

"Being just a couple of steps away from Wembley, Tuesday's game is one we will be taking very seriously, as I'm sure Oxford will be as well.

"Oxford are in a good place at the moment. They have won four games out of five in all competitions and come into the game on the back of a 4-0 win at Rochdale.

"You look at their team and bench from that game on Saturday, there is no doubt they have a very strong squad.

"As we've said before, this was arguably the toughest draw we could have got in this competition.

"They will be tough opponents, but I'm sure Oxford will be thinking the same about us."
