McCALL LOOKING AT HIS OPTIONS FOR AFC WIMBLEDON

26 October 2016

Bantams boss Stuart McCall is expecting some more tough selection decisions over the coming days as he mulls over his options for this Saturday's trip to AFC Wimbledon.

Following their entertaining 3-3 draw against fellow high-flyers Sheffield United last time out, McCall's men will travel to the capital at the weekend for their latest Sky Bet League One fixture.

McCall made four changes each to his line up for City's last two games, including the Sheffield United match, with a number of different players catching the eye during stages of those fixtures.

The City chief will have Marc McNulty available to him once again for the AFC Wimbledon match after the striker was unable to play against his parent club last Saturday.

Tony McMahon has made a welcome return to training this week but it is unknown at this stage whether the defender will be in contention for the Wimbledon game.

McCall said: "It is hard to leave players out of the starting XI at the moment. It is probably even harder leaving people out of the eighteen-man squad because they don't deserve to be.

"We've had it recently with Nathan Clarke at Oxford and Daniel Devine against Southend - they had both done nothing wrong.

"If players aren't starting, they've still got to be ready to take their opportunity when called upon.

"I think the players realise that we have a strong squad here at the moment in terms of the quality and depth.

"When you have Saturday - Tuesday games in particular, it can be beneficial to give some of the lads a breather. It can do them some good.

"We brought Tim (Dieng), Billy Clarke and Jordy (Hiwula) back into the side against Sheffield United and they all scored.

"Marc (McNulty) was naturally disappointed not to play last Saturday, especially after scoring the game before, but he will have plenty of further opportunities now."

Matthew Kilgallon is one player looking to stake a claim for a longer run in the side after finally making his way into McCall's starting XI.

Joining the club just one week before the start of the season, Kilgallon was forced to play catch-up with his fitness in the early stages of the season.

The 32 year-old has featured in City's last two games though, replacing left back James Meredith in the side.

Meredith could return to training this week following a recent ankle injury but McCall has been pleased with Kilgallon's performances in the Australian's absence.

McCall added: "We know that Killa (Matthew Kilgallon) is a different kind of footballer to Mez (James Meredith) but we have been very pleased with his contribution over the last couple of games.

"We know from his time at Blackburn that he can play as a full back and he's slotted in very well recently.

"He brings a lot of experience and know-how to the side."
