After their entertaining and memorable 3-3 draw with high-flying Sheffield United last time out, McCall's men are set to face a Wimbledon side this Saturday who are also currently in the play-off picture.
Heading into their game with City, Wimbledon are unbeaten in their last eight league games, winning five of them.
Such a rich vein of form has seen Wimbledon - promoted into League One for the first time via the play-offs back in May - up into sixth place in the current table.
McCall said: "Following on from last weekend (vs Sheffield United), we'll be coming up against another form side in AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.
"They perhaps took a bit of time at the start of the season to find their feet but they are flying at the moment after back-to-back away wins at Bury and Peterborough United.
"Although they 'only' beat Peterborough 1-0, they've hit the woodwork three times and played very well - they could have scored more.
"They are in the top six at the moment and thoroughly deserve to be there considering the way they are playing.
"There is no doubt about it, we're going to have to be at our very best if we want to come home with the three points.
"They are a very energetic side; one of their main strengths is clearly their unity and togetherness.
"It is up to us to go down there and compete and match them in all departments.
"Wimbledon deserve a lot of plaudits for what they are doing but it is up to us to try and put a pin in their balloon so to speak.
"I heard the game is a sell-out for both home and away supporters so we've expecting a good atmosphere and another challenge."
After four weeks sidelined due to a thigh injury, Tony McMahon made a welcome return to training this week.
Fellow defender James Meredith is hopefully not too far behind himself as he continues to make progress following a recent ankle problem.
McCall added: "He's (Tony McMahon) had a good week of training under his belt. So has James Hanson; he's had no reaction to his return to the side last weekend.
"I don't want to rule Mez (James Meredith) out at the moment because he is so keen to feature in some part.
"He has done everything the physios have asked of him.
"We don't want to take any chances on him but, equally, if we feel he is over his injury, we'd be delighted to include him in the squad.
"We will speak with Mez but it could be 50/50 as to whether he travels or not.
"The big decision is whether we bring him down for a place in the squad or we leave him up in Bradford to get him ready for next week."
Although McMahon and Meredith's places in City's travelling party to AFC Wimbledon are currently in doubt, Marc McNulty is certainly expected to come back into the reckoning.
Frustratingly for the striker, he was forced to sit out the game against his parent club Sheffield United just a few days after scoring his first goal for City against Southend.
McCall added: "He will be champing at the bit to be involved, but so will a lot of the other guys.
"We didn't make any substitutions last weekend, so the likes of Filipe Morais, Mark Marshall and Haris Vuckic are all desperate to play as well.
"It is a nice selection headache to have certainly."
