CITY COMPLETE WYKE TRANSFER

31 January 2017

The Bantams are delighted to be able to confirm the eye-catching signing of prolific striker Charlie Wyke from Carlisle United on a permanent deal this transfer deadline day.

Wyke penned a two-and-a-half year deal at the Northern Commercials Stadium this Tuesday evening after joining City for an undisclosed fee from the Cumbrians.

The much sought-after 24 year-old has already netted 18 goals this season for Carlisle - including thirteen goals in his last sixteen matches.

He has also scored a goal every 131 minutes on average in the league for Carlisle during the season so far.

This fine form from the potent forward follows on from the 15 goals he scored in the previous 2015/2016 campaign.

Combining both season's tallies together, Wyke has grabbed himself an impressive 33 goals in his last 72 games - averaging out at roughly one goal every two games.

The proven goalscorer won't be eligible for this Tuesday's Checkatrade Trophy quarter-final tie at Oxford United but, subject to the club receiving the relevant clearances, Wyke could be in line to make his City debut in Saturday's #BantamsFamily fixture at home to Gillingham.

Wyke moved to Brunton Park in January 2015 after a successful loan spell with Hartlepool United earlier in the season when he scored four goals in thirteen games.

The powerful forward netted a further six goals in the second half of the 2014/2015 campaign following his move to Carlisle, helping the striker to finish on double figures for the season.

Starting his career at hometown club Middlesbrough, Wyke was given his first professional contract at the Riverside Stadium at the end of the 2010-2011 season after scoring nearly thirty goals for their youth team throughout the campaign.

After enjoying a spell on loan at Kettering at the start of 2012, Wyke actually made his senior debut in professional football in an EFL Trophy tie against the Bantams during his first loan period with Hartlepool later in the same year.

Along with two periods with Hartlepool and a stint at Kettering, Wyke was also on loan at AFC Wimbledon during the early years of this career.
