10 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT ALAN SHEEHAN

19 June 2014

The club earlier today announced the signing of Irish defender Alan Sheehan following his departure from Notts County. We have put together a list of ten facts about him to give fans a bit of an insight to City's newest player.

1. Alan made over 100 appearances for Notts County and was awarded the Player of the Year award after an impressive 2013-14 season for the club.

2. Starting out in the academy at Leicester City, Alan won the club’s Academy Player of the season in 2005 as an 18 year old.

3. Regarded as a set piece specialist, at Notts County he was responsible for corner duties as well as free kick and penalties and captained the side to safety against the odds last season.

4. Alan had a two year spell with West Yorkshire rivals Leeds United between 2008 and 2010; he was an unused substitute in the 1-0 League One Play-Off final defeat to Doncaster Rovers in 2008.

5. He has represented Republic of Ireland at Under 21s level and made his international debut in June 2005 when he appeared in a clash with Israel Under 21s.

6. Though primarily a left back, he can also operate at centre back.

7. He opted to sign for City despite being subject to much interest from a number of other clubs allegedly including the likes of League One title favourites Sheffield United.

8. Unluckily for Alan, as well as being a losing Play-Off finalist with Leeds United, he also missed out on promotion from League One via the Play-Offs with Swindon Town as they lost 1-0 to Millwall. He started at left back that day, and Stephen Darby came on as his replacement in the 67th minute.

9. En route to the final that season, Swindon beat Charlton Athletic in the Play-Off semi-finals a side managed at the time by City manager Phil Parkinson.

10. As well as playing for Leicester City, Leeds United, Swindon Town and Notts County, Alan also spent time on loan with Mansfield Town, Crewe Alexandra and Oldham Athletic earlier in his career.
